Manual Labor is excited to host a book release party for "Short Stories Illustrated by Artists," a new publication of Chicago's own Front Forty Press. The book is a record of a blind collaboration between seven writers and seven artists, including Robert McGee, Eduardo De Soignie, Sasha Earle, and many more. Please check back for date and time.

Manual Labor is a salon of progressive art and literature in Chicago. We may occupy a physical gallery and a digital web space, but as a collective our contributors come from far and wide. We've exhibited Chicago's most raw and challenging performance art, held book-release parties for proletariat-minded emerging authors, and continually opened our doors to support the creative experiments of artists and writers for four years and counting.

By far our most successful endeavor is the Freshly Squeezed Reading Series and her resulting print edition Lying Down with Full Stomachs. This eclectic collection of young writers and poets gather every other month to read their most recent works of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry for an evening of good old stories.

"Art could be, but might not be, simply
doing art, whatever that may be, as long as it can't be identified."

-Alan Kaprow
